The replica was developed in cooperation between CYMA and CyberGun, offering a faithful reproduction of a design inspired by the CAR-15 N-23, one of the most compact AR platform concepts, created for operations in confined spaces. Its ultra-short form combined with classic AR ergonomics ensures high mobility and ease of use in CQB scenarios. The model belongs to the Lightning Series, which, thanks to a lightweight aluminum bolt carrier and an optimized return system, delivers excellent responsiveness and a fast operating cycle. The heart of the replica is the CYMA CGS system, developed with T8 and based on the TM MWS platform, ensuring realistic blowback and wide compatibility with tuning parts.

Unconventional model

The CAR-15 Model N-23 is a unique interpretation of the AR platform, inspired by one of the most unusual Cold War-era concepts. The original idea was based on experimental Colt designs aimed at creating an ultra-compact PDW (Personal Defense Weapon) for vehicle crews, pilots, and operators working in confined environments.

The model, often referred to as “Never Was," never entered mass production but perfectly reflects the development direction of short CAR-15 carbines intensively tested in the 1960s. The design originates from the modular CAR-15 family, which included various configurations - from special forces carbines to aircraft crew weapons.

Its defining feature is extreme compactness - with an overall length of approximately 21 inches and a barrel of just 7.5 inches, making it one of the smallest AR platform variants. This configuration fits perfectly into the PDW concept, where mobility, speed, and maneuverability in tight spaces are critical.

The N-23 can be seen as a hypothetical evolution of the CAR-15 concept, even shorter, more compact, and optimized for CQB operations while maintaining classic AR ergonomics.

Construction and details

The replica is made of metal and features “COLT M4A1" markings on the lower receiver. The classic upper with a carry handle and integrated rear sight preserves the retro character of the design.

The rifle is equipped with a short 7.5-inch outer barrel, ensuring excellent maneuverability and fast target acquisition - key features in CQB environments. The front is fitted with a shortened CAR-15 style polymer handguard, while ergonomics are completed with a classic A1 pistol grip and a compact adjustable stock mounted on a metal two-position buffer tube.

The construction also includes numerous steel components to enhance durability, such as the bolt catch, iron sights, sling mounts, and trigger assembly parts. The replica is powered by a 22-round gas magazine.

Full Colt Industries License

The replica is manufactured under Colt Industries license, featuring authentic markings and faithfully reproduced details of the original firearm. The external construction is made of high-quality aluminum, while key mechanical components are made of steel, increasing durability and resistance to heavy use.

Reliable CYMA CGS internal system

At the heart of the replica is the modern CYMA CGS gas system, developed in cooperation with T8, based on the popular MWS platform, known for its high realism of operation and wide availability of upgrade parts. The design features an adjustable trigger mechanism, allowing precise tuning of the replica's characteristics to the shooter's preferences. To increase durability and resistance to wear, numerous steel components have been used, including the complete trigger group, hammer, bolt catch, and magazine release.

In the Lightning Series version, an aluminum bolt carrier is used, reducing the mass of moving parts, which translates into better responsiveness, a shorter operating cycle, and a higher rate of fire. The system is complemented by a polymer buffer that stabilizes blowback operation and improves overall smoothness. This configuration provides realistic recoil, dynamic bolt movement, and high user comfort both in semi-automatic and full-auto fire.
